# What is CortexHosting?

CortexHosting is a VPS hosting platform. You get your own Linux server and a dashboard to run it. You can run the server
yourself, or let us help run it.

CortexHosting has not launched yet, so you can't order a server today.

## What you can choose

| Choice | Your options |
|---|---|
| Kind of server | **VPS** (you run it, with root through `sudo`) or **Managed** (we help run it) |
| System | Ubuntu 24.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 or Rocky Linux 9 |

## What the dashboard does

- **Terminal and files:** use your server from your browser, with no setup.
- **Apps:** install Nginx, Caddy, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Redis, Docker, Node.js, WordPress and more from a list. Some apps
  aren't offered on every system.
- **Domains:** attach a domain, or get a free web address. With Caddy, your site gets a free HTTPS certificate.
- **Firewall:** on a new server, everything coming in is closed, except SSH and ping. Apps you install open what they need, like web ports.
- **Backups:** turn on backups for your server if you want them. They are a separate paid feature.
- **Your team:** give each person only the access they need.
- **A lock:** lock a server with your passkey or SSH key. While it's locked, our software on the server says no to anything new from us, like a terminal, files or installs. Its everyday jobs and its own signed updates keep running. The lock works inside the server, so the server can still be turned off or deleted. If you lose every key, it stays locked.

## What Managed adds

Safety updates install by themselves, and you do your work through the dashboard. No account on a Managed server has
`sudo`.

## Using it with AI apps

An AI app that can use MCP, such as Claude Code, can work in your account through a connection you approve. The app never
gets your password, and you choose which projects it can look at or work in. What it reads goes to the company that made the app.

## Bring your own server

You can also add a server you already have, so that you can see it in the same dashboard.
